HERE’S HOW IT WORKS

What do we do at Convo Club?

We exchange ideas with each other through conversation (not monologues).

Ask people what they think!

🗣️ "Why?"

🗣️ "Can you give an example?"

🗣️ "How about you?"

Build off of what others have said!

Why E4S Conversation Club?

Everyone needs a safe place to practice speaking and listening with speakers from around the world.

Talking about sustainability-related topics can expand our consciousness and inspire actions that will help us to do our part in the fight against climate change.

The Format of Conversations

You will have 2 or 3 conversations during this hour with different groups in breakout rooms.

Each conversation will be 10-20 minutes.

The host will give you a minute to wrap up before returning to the main room.

Guidelines for Successful Conversation

  • Be polite and professional

  • Speak as much as you listen

  • Try to understand: ask for clarification, spelling, and more

  • Make note of new words and interesting ideas

  • Use the chat for questions and help

How Much it Costs

E4S Conversation Club is free! There is no cost at all to join the event.

The Meetup app and website is also free to join.

Please arrive on time and make sure that your audio quality is good so that everyone can hear you.

November 24th's Topic & Questions

Designing a Sharing Culture

In many communities around the world, people are starting to rethink the way we use—and reuse—our things. A “sharing culture” encourages people to exchange items, borrow what they need, and give new life to objects that would otherwise be thrown away.

But building this kind of culture isn’t only about sustainability. It also requires trust, good systems, and a shift in how we think about ownership.

One company that has an amazing vision and technology to match it is iWasteNotSystems. Conversation Club member, Togonon Severin, recently posted about it and inspired Lara to set it as our topic this month. You can read the post here on LinkedIn.

So, in this month’s Conversation Club, we’ll explore what makes sharing easy or difficult, and how communities, companies, and individuals can create spaces where reuse becomes a natural part of daily life.

Let's talk about it!

  1. What does “a sharing culture” mean to you?
Do you see examples of it in your city, workplace, or school?

  2. What makes sharing or reusing items challenging where you live?
Is it cultural, practical, or something else?

  3. Have you ever given away, swapped, or borrowed something through a community program or online platform?
    What was the experience like?

  4. What systems (apps, community groups, campus programs, etc.) would make sharing easier for you?
    What features would you want?

  5. How important is trust when people exchange items?
    What helps build that trust?

  6. How can schools, companies, or local governments encourage people to reuse more?
What would actually motivate behavior change?

  7. Imagine your community creates a new sharing or reuse platform.
What problem should it solve first?
